With October rolling back around, Ontarians’ attention swings back to hockey and specifically the long-awaited return of OHL action.

The Barrie Colts have made numerous behind-the-scenes changes, with new GM and Head Coach Marty Williamson taking over the reins following the departure of Jason Ford.

Williamson was Head Coach of the Colts for six years before departing for the Niagara IceDogs in the 2010-11 season. He claims an OHL record of 457-296-9-54 in 12 seasons. During his Colts’ tenure, he led the team to six playoff appearances, and he also secured two conference championships with the IceDogs.

The Colts will kick off their season against Williamson’s former club, the Niagara IceDogs, on October 7th at the Sadlon Arena. The schedule includes another nine games for the Colts in October, and they will finish the campaign with a two-game stand against North Bay from April 2nd-3rd.

The Owen Sound Attack, like the Barrie Colts, clinched a playoff spot before the pandemic struck. They also have a new Head Coach in charge following the appointment of Greg Walters in June. Walters signed a two-year deal with the team and became the 16th coach ever to coach the Attack.

Walters was the Head Coach of the Oshawa Generals in the past two seasons and guided them to back-to-back third-place finishes in the Ontario Hockey League’s Eastern Conference. In his Generals’ tenure, he held a record of 75-40-10-5.

The Attack will look to reproduce their 2019-20 regular season form this month as they travel to the London Knights in the first game of the season. The Attack finishes up their season with a home game versus the Windsor Spitfires.
